You Can Help!

  • Become a Volunteer  Join us! We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the church Parlor.
  • Can't Make a Monthly Commitment? Maybe you would like to prepare a salad or dessert for the monthly dinners. 
  • Looking for Something Hands-On? Help serve at the monthly dinners. 

 

Community Dinners

     Bring your family for a "Home Cooked Meal" in Fellowship Hall inside First United Methodist Church, 103 Franklin Street, Valparaiso, IN. Dinners are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month, except November and December, when the Holiday Dinners for Thanksgiving and Christmas are held on the 3rd Tuesday.

On Wednesday, September 23, 2015, Rays of Hope, a ministry of First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso, sponsored a live panel discussion on the issue of poverty in Porter County. Guest panelists were Ric Frataccia, Superintendent of Valparaiso Community Schools; David M. Reynods, Porter County Sheriff; Donald J. Evans, Attorney, Evans and Evans; Barbara Kemler, Executive Director, First Contact; Tom Neff, FUMC Coordinator for New Creation Men's Overnight Shelter; and Caroline Shook, CEO of Housing Opportunities. This discussion was moderated by Lani Fisher, Executive Assistant, First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso.

Reynolds, Porter County Sheriff's Department; Todd Willis, Director of Prevention and Education, Porter Starke Services, INc.; Tracy Traut, Addiction and Recovery Counselor, Porter County Substance Abuse Council; Mitch Peters, President of Board of Directors of Respite House; and Rev. Jay Birky, Chaplain, Porter County Sheriff's Department. This discussion was moderated by Lani Fisher, Executive Assistant, First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso.
